Youth are meeting At The Throne

CAMBRIDGE, ON—This May hundreds of high school students from across Waterloo region will be gathering At The Throne.

The third annual event takes place May 25 at Calvary Pentecostal Assembly in Cambridge and is being promoted as an evening of fellowship, worship and encouragement.

Two years ago several members of various high school Christian Fellowship groups came up with an idea to organize an event to bring youth from across the region together for a night of worship.

"We wanted a place to get our friends together to have fun worshipping God, while supporting each other as Christian high school students," says event organizer Ashley Mitton, who was actively involved with Preston High School's Christian Club before beginning studies at the University of Guelph.

"Looking back, we were surprised by what God did with our simple idea. He continues to give us the opportunity to host this event so we'll keep doing it."

While the organizers have had some help from parents and leaders, she adds, "At The Throne is an event for high school students, by high school students."

The non-denominational event is open to anyone who wants to come out and worship God.

"It's important to know you have people your age who believe the same things you do and who are going through the same thing. It's powerful to know you're not alone. And joining in worship [can have an impact] on an individual and communal level. Growing in your relationship with God is crucial … and At The Throne tries to encourage that."

The event will include guest speakers and music by local Christian bands. Instead of selling tickets this year, admission is a donation of canned goods to the Cambridge Food Bank. In previous years proceeds from the event went to local charities, Threads of Hope and Nutrition for Learning.
