The scientific meltdown over a controversial discovery of ‘biblical Sodom’

Competing conclusions about what happened at a historical site - believed by some to be the ruins of the destroyed Biblical city of Sodom - have scientists at odds.

Two Christian scientists have said that artefacts at the site - including charred wood and scorched pottery - show evidence of a city that was razed by incredible heat. Other scientists agree, suggesting the city may have been hit by a comet, while others are skeptical and have tried to explain away the burned artefacts as byproducts of ancient pottery making. But none of the explanations completely account for everything.
