Pope Francis to visit Edmonton, Quebec and Iqaluit in July to meet Indigenous people

Following his formal apology to Indigenous delegates from Canada on April 1st, the Vatican says Pope Francis will visit Canada this summer.

The April apology came after several days of meetings with Indigenous delegates at the Vatican. That apology was welcomed by many Indigenous people, but also criticized as being insufficient and long overdue. The Pope also said he would visit Canada to deliver apologies in person, a trip now planned for July to the cities of Edmonton, Quebec City and Iqaluit - however his travel may be limited or complicated by recent health challenges.
