Podcast to End Poverty

Moving Beyond Guilt and Apathy

What are Canadian Christians doing about poverty in your neighbourhood, across Canada, and around the world? Ask the experts on the Ending Poverty Together Podcast launching January 18, 2021 on Spotify and iTunes / Apple Podcasts.

You’ll hear Canadian and international experts grapple with such questions as “Why is getting rid of poverty so complicated?”, “Should I give more money?”, “How can I make a difference?”. Key influencers including Brian Fikkert, author of When Helping Hurts; Allison Alley, President of Compassion Canada; and Tim Day, Executive Director of City Movement, among others, will dig below the surface to tackle real issues. They’ll explore the spiritual nature of poverty, how to avoid “bandaid” solutions, the impact of climate change on the world’s poorest, why Canadians are still sleeping on the streets, and more.

With 1-in-12 people in Canada living in poverty over half a million of them children!, a looming global hunger pandemic, hurricanes and droughts, armed conflicts on every inhabited continent, and the largest population of displaced people ever in recorded history, this unique podcast couldn’t come at a more critical time.

“I’m so excited to be launching FH Canada’s new podcast, particularly with the uncertainty our global community is facing. It will help listeners learn how to appropriately respond to poverty in our own lives and in the lives of the most vulnerable. I want to encourage Canadians to tune in and discover hopeful solutions, apply them to your unique context, and keep the faith that your actions are making a difference and that you’re not alone.” - Shawn Plummer, FH Canada President & CEO

Representing Food for the Hungry (FH) Canada, dynamic co-hosts Eric and Shelaine will guide the journey with their pithy interview style, down-to-earth questions, deep empathy, and a distinctly Canadian sense of humour. “Poverty is so complex that we feel like we can’t make a difference,” Shelaine explains. “Our guests will help us understand the problems and give insights into how we can practically impact these seemingly overwhelming issues.”
