On Ukraine-Russia Border, Evangelicals Endure as Invasion Looms

The border between Russia and Ukraine has long been a place of political conflict, but over the holidays, life for the area's Christians became especially fraught.

Russian-backed separatists in Ukraine have controlled the Donbas region for more than 7 years, bringing instability that has spilled over from politics into religion. Tension between the Russian Orthodox church and local Evangelicals is on the rise, and while most protestant churches have been effectively illegal in the area, that community has remained strong.

Now, as tens of thousands of Russian troops sit at the border threatening an invasion, the local Baptist and Pentecostal churches unite in prayer against violence.
