In February 2022, Beijing will become the first country ever to have hosted both the Summer and Winter Games - despite China's lack of progress on human rights and civil liberties.
In the lead-up to the 2008 Summer Games, the International Olympic Committee said awarding them to China would force them to improve in these areas. But more than a decade later, human rights abuses remain and the IOC seems to be turning a blind eye.
