Do more Christians need to get serious about climate change?

Christians are called to act as stewards and protectors, rather than exploiters

Canadian evangelical Christians and climate scientist Katharine Hayhoe has become a leading evangelical voice against human-made climate change. However, as reported by the Vancouver Sun, she regularly receives hate mail from Christians who don’t believe humans are causing the warming of the Earth.

Hayhoe’s challenge is changing people’s understanding of God and creation. Instead, like Pope Francis’ denunciation of our exploitation of the Earth as an evil, Hayhoe believes Christians are called to act as stewards and protectors, rather than exploiters.

Vancouver Sun writer Douglas Todd says, “By in effect maintaining humans need to work as “co-creators” with God, Hayhoe is hardly being theologically radical.”
