Charles Mulli story retold as a children’s book

Canadian author chronicles Kenyan’s ministry to street children

WINNIPEG, MB—The story of a man who is father to thousands is launching as a children’s book this December.

As a young boy Charles Mulli was forced to live on the streets of Kenya, begging to survive. However, through hard work, a keen business sense, and God’s provision, Mulli became quite wealthy. Following an encounter with street children in 1986, Mulli launched into a three-year journey that led to him to sell his possessions and start Mully Children’s Family, a Christian rehabilitation organization and home for abandoned street children in Kenya.

Since that time thousands of boys and girls have called Mulli and his wife Mom and Dad.

Winnipeg author Paul Boge has chronicled Mulli’s story in two books, Father to the Fatherless, the Charles Mulli Story, and Hope for the Hopeless, The Charles Mulli Mission.

His latest project, a children’s book titled The Biggest Family in the World, targets a much younger audience.

“We wanted to make Charles Mulli’s story available to children,” says Boge. “It’s important for children to know that God loves them, that He answers prayer, and that each child has a special purpose. The book captures this in a way that makes it understandable for children.”

Winnipeg artist Faye Hall illustrated the book. She first came to know about Mulli and his mission after a presentation in her home church in 2011. When asked to be part of The Biggest Family in the World project, she says she didn’t hesitate. “There was no question in my mind that this was what God wanted me to do.”

The Biggest Family in the World is scheduled to be released at a fundraising banquet at North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church on December 6. Charles Mulli will be in attendance to read the book as part of the launch.
