Archaeologists Find Ancient Underground City Where 70,000 Christians Could Have Fled to Escape Persecution

An underground city discovered in Turkey could have been a major hiding place for early Christians.

Experts say the newly-discovered site was likely built in the second or third century as a place to hide or escape, presumably for early Christians escaping Roman persecution. The city contains ancient homes, food storage and places of worship, and could potentially have housed up to 60 or 70 thousand people at once.
