The Southern Baptist Convention has elected a new president and voted to adopt new reforms to address abuse within the church.

Last week's meeting of the SBC saw the election of Bart Barber to its top post, and a majority of "messengers" (delegates from SBC congregations) vote in favour of the two proposed reforms put forward by the SBC's sexual abuse task force: the creation of a new database for church leaders credibly accused of abuse, and a new task force to oversee continued reforms going forward.
