Orthodox Anglicans reminded of their “common cause”

“Let us maximize the possibilities together,” says Archbishop Yong Ping Chung

Canada’s orthodox Anglicans should not be discouraged by the different paths that people of good faith have followed in response to the near-certain collapse of global communion.

On the contrary, says Malaysian-born Archbishop Yong Ping Chung, their common deep commitment to the gospel of Jesus Christ means that God can—and will—somehow use them to help birth a renewed and revitalized Anglican Communion.


Christian camp and gay choir settle dispute

A faith-based Manitoba camp has reached a settlement with a gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered choir after four years of discussions.

The Rainbow Harmony Project filed a formal complaint with the Manitoba Human Rights Commission in 2002 against Camp Arnes after the camp abruptly cancelled the choir’s annual retreat booking.

Irene Loewen, Camp Arnes board chair, says the staff person who turned the choir away felt the group’s goals were not in accord with the camp’s statement of faith. “But she rejected them without letting them see it,” Loewen says. “They felt they were judged before knowing who they were.”

Kingdom Covenant Centre prepares to build

$35-million project to include 3,000-seat worship centre

Kingdom Covenant Centre (KCC), the booming congregation founded just 13 years ago by Jamaican-born “Pastor Pat” Francis, is preparing to break ground on a new $35-million building project.

The facility, which will be located on 20 acres of land at Eglinton Avenue East and Rakley Court in Mississauga, Ontario, will house a 3,000-seat worship centre and theatre, a school and a children’s day-care centre and youth facilities, including a gym.

Salvation Army fights modern slavery in Saskatchewan

Helping prostitutes find their lives once again is Rachel Lamont’s passion. Through the streets, in lonely hours, she touches the hearts of people trapped in a form of modern slavery. She is part of a Salvation Army campaign to fight human trafficking.

Combatting human and sexual trafficking has been a priority for the Salvation Army since 2004. In Saskatchewan, they are partnering with numerous organizations to help combat prostitution and are working to open a residential facility in Regina for women and children affected by the illegal trade.


Quebec joins 30 Days of Prayer for the Muslim world

Youth With a Mission (YWAM) and Christian Direction are challenging individuals and churches to pray for Muslims around the world during the upcoming month of Ramadan.

According to the program brochure, “it was in 1992 that several key Christian leaders gathered in the Middle East [and] initiated this call for the Christian world to unite in a time of prayer and fasting for the Muslim world.”
