Fellowship Baptist churches announce new national leader

New “innovator” president comes from outside
denomination, country

GUELPH, ON—After a two-year executive search, one of this country’s largest evangelical denominations—The Fellowship of Evangelical Baptist Churches in Canada—has announced the appointment of a new president. For the first time in the denomination’s 53-year history, they’ve hired a leader from both outside the Fellowship and from outside the country.

New video brings hope
to hostages’ families

A video released by Al-Jazeera television at the end of January raises hope that four men abducted and held hostage in Iraq may still be alive.

Canadians James Loney and Harmeet Singh Sooden, as well as Briton Norman Kember and American Tom Fox were abducted at gunpoint in Baghdad November 26, 2005 as their driver and translator were left standing helplessly on the side of the road. The four men were in Iraq working with Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT). read more>

Breakaway Anglicans consider plans for new outreach

PENDER HARBOUR, BC—A small group of Canadian Anglicans who recognize five foreign archbishops as their episcopal overseers say they have been given the green light to start planting churches.

That approval came at a meeting in January between representatives of the newly renamed Anglican Coalition in Canada (ACiC) and the archbishops (or primates) at an Anglican Mission in America conference in Birmingham, Alabama.

Conference equips women for revival

TORONTO, ON—A conference being held in conjunction with one of Canada’s largest missionfest galas will focus on what organizers call “one of the most unused resources in the Church today”—women.

MissionFest Toronto will host Renaissance, a one-day forum and “equipping school” to help women learn how to more effectively share their faith. More than 700 attendees are expected at the March 25 event


Church reopens after mould removed

CHARLOTTETOWN, PE—The Charlottetown Community Church (Salvation Army) has reopened its doors following a two-year closure caused by mould.

Major renovations, including redone walls and new windows, have updated the look of the building. The new facility celebrated its grand opening February 5 and is also home to the Salvation Army’s Community and Family Services, which include a drop-in centre and food bank.
