School policy forbids Bible distribution

MONCTON, NB—The Gideons are no longer allowed to distribute free New Testaments in Moncton schools, and likely provincewide, following a parental complaint.

The complaint originated from a mother who learned that her child would be given a Testament unless she (as a parent) completed a card saying she did not want one.

She complained first to the school, and then to the provincial department of education who then notified the school district that there is a policy in place that forbids the distribution of “partisan” religious material in schools in the province.
