Symbolic marriage unites Canadians of French and English heritage

QUEBEC CITY, QC—More than 2,000 people from across Canada gathered in Quebec City at the end of July to seek God’s healing for Canada in the hopes that it can then bring healing to other nations.

Ancient biblical scroll discovered in Israelite cave
For the first time since the 1960s, the caves in the Judaean wilderness have yielded an ancient biblical scroll. The discovery of a fragmentary “Dead Sea Scroll” containing portions of the book of Leviticus was announced in July by Professor Hanan Eshel of Bar Ilan University in Israel. read more>

Gay churches gather in Calgary for world convention

CALGARY, AB—With what might be considered ironic timing, Canada’s hotly contested same-sex marriage legislation was approved by senators and the Governor-General the same week the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches (UFMCC)—the world’s largest association of gay Christians—convened its World Jubilee Convention in Calgary.

Close to 800 delegates, officials and visitors associated with the Los Angeles-based organization met July 18-26 at the Epcor Centre for the Performing Arts and several major hotels in Calgary’s downtown core to conduct business that included the affirmation of approximately 30 candidates for ordination and the election of Nancy Wilson to succeed Troy Perry as the group’s moderator. get the full story>


Nazareth Village bids executive director farewell

NAZARETH, ISRAEL—Nazareth Village, the full-scale recreation of Jesus’ hometown in the first century, has bid farewell to its executive director of nine years, Michael Hostetler.

The child of Mennonite missionary parents, Hostetler moved to Israel with his Canadian wife and two children in 1996 to help establish the project.

More than just a tourist attraction, the village combines archaeology and reconstruction in what has been described as a “living laboratory” which offers visitors the opportunity to experience how life was lived at the time of Jesus.get the full story>
