Awards honour top non-profit organizations

CAMBRIDGE, ON—Two Christian ministries, Listen Up TV and CAUSE Canada, walked away with $10,000 awards for innovation at the second annual R.L. Petersen Awards.

“I’m speechless,” said Listen Up TV executive director Lorna Dueck at the April 19 ceremony, held at the University of Waterloo School of Architecture in Cambridge. Dueck received the award for moving the weekly newsmagazine program from the Crossroads Television System to Global. “Bridgeway gave us tremendous courage. We couldn’t have done it without them.”

The Bridgeway Foundation, a Cambridge-based organization that partners with Canadian non-profits to help stimulate creativity and innovation in the non-profit sector, founded the R.L. Petersen Awards.

Alliance backs teacher in battle for religious freedom
VANCOUVER, BC—Charter protections of freedom of religion will be rendered meaningless if a ruling that found a Christian teacher guilty of discrimination against homosexuals is allowed to stand, the B.C. Court of Appeal has been told.

David Brown, lawyer for the Canadian Religious Freedom Alliance, says people of faith tend to speak out publicly on moral issues—and that right should not be abrogated just because others may be offended by their views.

French faith-based radio planned for Montreal
MONTREAL, QC—Official approval seems to be the last major hurdle for what could become Montreal’s first French Christian radio station. Communications Média Évangélique, a local consortium of business, broadcast and ministry professionals, has already resolved many of the technical issues, found an appropriate site and used temporary frequencies to run trial broadcasts.

Multiple faith groups rally to defend traditional marriage
