Canadian connection brings Bible to Yali

A new Bible translation nears completion

By ChristianWeek staff

MISSISSAUGA, ON–Final editing on the Southern Yali translation of the Bible is happening at the Toronto-area offices of the World Team mission agency.

Otto Kobak, a national from Irian Jaya, is spending several weeks with World Team Canada director John Wilson and Daud Soesilo of the Indonesian and United Bible Societies working at a translation they say will become the first complete Bible in any of Irian Jaya’s 250 languages. Other abridged Bibles have appeared and numerous New Testaments.

Translators are aiming to publish the Bible in 1999, and working to raise the $30,000 (US) required.
