Ministry training weekend takes young adult focusGeneration Next targets postmodern mindsetBy Jane Harris Schultchen - Special to ChristianWeek Jointly sponsored by InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, First Baptist Church, Ecumenical Campus Ministries at the University of Lethbridge and College Drive Community Church, the September 25-26 gathering was part of a training weekend that also included GenXplosion, a worship and arts conference. Other events included a Friday night forum, a Saturday night cappuccino bar and a midnight concert. During the day, participants learned how to minister to young adults through what Mueller calls "incarnational ministry," which he says is based on building one-to-one relationships. "Engaged scepticism" Mueller believes the "engaged scepticism" of teenagers and young adults represents opportunity and challenge for the Church, adding that many young adults have a postmodern worldview that combines moral relativism, a search for meaning and a sense of hopelessness. "They will talk about spiritual things, but they will be sceptical," he says.
