The best little Web site in Canada
Doug Koop
This newspaper has neither the room nor the resources to report properly on whats been happening in the Anglican Church of Canada and the ripples beyond. Of course Im aware that just about every issue of CW for the past few years has carried something about Anglicans, especially the long and tortuous tale of conflict over same-sex blessings in the Vancouver area. Regular readers will know that those events, and eruptions over similar matters in the United States, have had an enormous international impact. Church leaders from around the world have been grappling at the highest levels with the theological and ecclesial issues they raise. Canadas Anglican hierarchy has largely been backing the wrong horse (rather ineptly at that). And so the story continues. What you dont know from our pages in this issue is that a top level meeting of senior bishops met in England this month to deal with the issue (they eventually issued a statement which leaves everyone with something to love and to loathe). Youre not getting anywhere near the full story on Bishop Inghams efforts to assert his authority in the face of ongoing dissidence. You dont know what the African and Asian bishops are saying about the Western churches apparent embrace of unbiblical expressions of human sexuality. You will not get a proper handle on this in ChristianWeek. Thankfully, there is a delightful and amazingly comprehensive source of global Anglican news and views available at the fingertips of anyone with access to the Internet (www.anglican.tk/). This Canadian operation, run by biblically orthodox Anglicans, is a gift to the world. It provides links to a vast array of news and opinion articles from every perspective. The elves who put it together (led by head elf Binky) have a unique way of letting readers know what they think, but they do not censor the coverage. Its all there. Your most faithful guide to one of the most fascinating religious stories of the new millennium is the best little Web site in Canada. Go Binky and the elves. |
