Who notices?

I often wonder how many of our readers pay attention to the ongoing changes in ChristianWeek. Every issue is full of new material, of course, but certain features and contributors come and go. Who notices, for example, when a new column series begins or ends? Who notices when a regular columnist takes her leave and another steps in?

Well, the first clue is often in the Letter from the Editor, the little note you’re reading now. So here is your sneak preview of the next stage of our evolution.

Beginning in the New Year, former ChristianWeek associate editor Debra Fieguth will contribute the Canada Today column in alternating editions of the newspaper. She steps into the space being vacated by Marianne Meed Ward, who’s been in the slot for more than two years. I would tell you who will be replacing Charles Moore in the alternating spot, but it isn’t nailed down just yet. Stay tuned.

Debra, as many longtime readers will remember, is a gifted writer with extensive knowledge of Christian community throughout Canada. She currently resides in Kingston, Ontario, where she continues to forge her career as a freelance author and works part time as social action ministry coordinator for the Anglican Diocese of Ontario.

Both Marianne and Charles have proven to be engaging columnists, flirting with the limits of evangelical conviction and compassion and challenging the mainstream of our thinking in the process. There is a more than a hint of the gadfly in their writing, and many of you have chosen to respond to their views.

We truly appreciate that interaction, even when you call to correct us. There is a difference between being properly provocative and being inflammatory. You can help us draw that line.
