Vision: To train, mentor and shape singer-songwriters, songwriting worship leaders, and those called to music ministry as musicians and worship leaders within the Music and Worship Arts post-secondary educational context as described on the website (http://www.prairie.edu/worship). The Music and Worship Arts training team is led by Dr. Mark Jonah.
Mission: To serve as faculty member in the Song Writing and Recording concentration in Music and Worship Arts. Oversight and development of the aforementioned concentration. Mentor and encourage songwriters of all styles helping each student discover their signature style.
Duties and responsibilities:
General responsibilities include but are not limited to those noted below. The description may be adjusted according to the experience, skills and passions of the successful applicant.
• Lead and champion the song writing/recording concentration.
• Lead the process of song selection for student EP recordings.
• Serve as team member of the Music and Worship Arts program (e.g. contributing member of MWA staff meetings, involved with MWA program development and represent the program in campus and public functions/meetings).
• Teach curriculum (e.g. song writing, music theory, music business, musicianship)
• Build influence of the program.
• Assist as required in MWA admissions and retention efforts (e.g. musical ministries of the campus, music student admission applications, meet prospective students).
• Assist as required in chapel ministry (e.g. supervise music for Community chapel, supervise chapel apprentice, train musical teams, organize auditions, appoint worship leaders, coordinate AV)
• Encourage extra-curricular activities (e.g. Songsmith Society leadership, Music Appreciation nights, and Vinyl Vault).
• Mission: Knowledge of and enthusiastic commitment to Prairie’s mission, vision, core values, statement of faith, and community covenant. Genuine endorsement of the philosophy and practices of the Music and Worship Arts program.
• Church: Understanding of and commitment to the local church.
• Education: Prefer a graduate degree in a relevant discipline and/or significant experience in a relevant discipline.
• Experience: Significant experience in music field and post-secondary education.
• English Language: Excellent knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including composition and grammar.
• Character: Observable and contagious love for God, self-initiative, maturity of Christian character, team attitude, loyalty to organization and people, missional.
• Relational Competency: Ability to work in collegial partnership with a variety of groups, able to communicate clearly and effectively, experience and ability in growing team relationships, ability and skill to relate well to college-age students.
• Music Abilities/Skills: Ability to teach music theory, specializes in song writing, global perspective of music and teaches accordingly, ability to teach sight singing and ear training, experience in classical and contemporary music.
• Other Abilities/Skills: Passion and ability to equip students for ministry, familiarity with Sibelius, administrative/organizational ability, teaching skills in a post-secondary classroom setting,
