Briercrest women’s volleyball ranked number one in nation

CARONPORT, SK---The first Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) National rankings of the 2015-16 season were recently released, and the Briercrest women’s volleyball team---the Briercrest Clippers---was ranked number one in Canada for the first time in program history.

After weeks of competition in their own conference---the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC)---Briercrest women’s volleyball is ranked number one nationally in CCAA National rankings. This is an important milestone for the program as it is the first time that the program has been ranked number one in the nation.

Their early season highlight was a sweep of two-time defending CCAA champions Red Deer College. They hope to continue building momentum and recognition nationally as the season progresses.

“It is a nice honour for our girls to be recognized for the hard work they have put in to build our program to the level of being a consistent contender over the last few years,” says head coach Nolan Weinmaster. “There are many young women who have given a lot over the years, and we have alumni who should definitely share in the honour of this first-ever achievement for the Briercrest women’s volleyball program, as they have built a foundation for this year’s team to build off of.”

“All the attention and any glory that comes from these types of things---we just want to reflect that back to God who gives us the ability to even learn and be physically active and enjoy a sport we love to play," added Weinmaster. "Anything good we have in our lives is from Him, and the truth is, no achievement of any sort in this world will ever compare to the joy and hope we have because of Him."

Their next game is on November 20, 2015, where they will be the visiting team taking on Olds College at 6 p.m. MST.
